Larry’s True Identity

Derick Boberson, Madley Primary School

Chapter Two

Larry walked and walked towards the glistening in the distance until he was tired. He sat down and noticed that his belt buckle was a question mark. It was a key to another world but Larry didn’t know it. He decided to clip the ‘L’ onto the belt for safekeeping.

This caused a small pool to appear next to him. Larry was boiling hot, so he plunged in, but he did not know that it was a magical pool. The water began to drain away and sucked him down through the plug hole!

After a big fall, Larry found himself on a deserted island. The island was beautiful but there was a very strange sound. He decided to find out what it was.

He found two people crying on the rocks, mumbling to themselves . ”What’s wrong?’’ asked Larry.

They looked at him and sobbed, “We don’t deserve our names.’’

‘‘Well, what are your names?’’ asked Larry.

‘‘Hope and Understanding’’ they said.

Larry couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t deserve their names so he asked.

“We don’t show ‘hope’ and ‘understanding’ because we don’t know how!” they replied.

Larry told them about the trotter ball team that he supported at home. He explained that his team weren’t doing very well and that there was a lot of disagreement between his friends about whose team was best.

Larry told his new friends that he could understand his friends’ views, even though they weren’t the same as his.

He also told them that he hoped that his team would do well and he knew his support would help.

Hope and Understanding now knew how to live up to their names. They were so grateful, they took Larry to their most prized possession, the mystical tree of wishes.

“All you need to do is wish for what you need most in life…”Larry dropped to his knees and thought. Then he began to wish, “I wish I could find my identity” he whispered.

There was a rustling above him. A red hot letter ‘A’ fell from the tree and burnt its shape on Larry’s belt. It then melted through the sand.

All of a sudden the ground fell away and Larry tumbled after the letter.
