Little Lucy Chatterbox

Fae Price, Madley Primary School

In a little cottage lived a girl called Lucy, but everyone called her Little Lucy Chatterbox because she liked to talk all the time. One day, Lucy’s mum told her to go to Aunty Katy’s house because she was feeling poorly, and to take some cakes in her basket for her, and to stop at the shop for some honey and lemon. Mum warned her not to speak to any strangers on the way.

Lucy tried to do what her mum said, but she couldn’t help herself. In her charming way she was saying, “Hello!” to everyone she saw as she walked along the street to the shops. When she left the shop there was a man who she did not know, but she still said, “Hello!” even though she wasn’t allowed to speak to strangers. The man said, “Hello, what do you have in your basket?” Lucy, not listening to her mother’s wise advice, replied, “Some cakes for my poorly Aunty Katy, who lives at the bottom of this road. Would you like to see them?”

“Yes please,” said the man. “They look delicious, please can I have one?” asked the man politely. Lucy said, “Oh sorry, they are all for my Aunty Katy, who is very poorly. Bye, I have to go now because she will be waiting for me,” and off Lucy skipped.

The man thought to himself, “I really want those cakes, but how can I get them?” Suddenly, he had an amazing idea and off he ran. Lucy was so busy talking to everyone she met that she didn’t notice him running past her towards her Aunty Katy’s house.

When the man arrived at Aunty Katy’s house he pretended to be her doctor so she would let him in. Shockingly, he locked her in the kitchen! He then dressed up in her dressing gown and slippers and put her curlers in his hair and sat on the sofa to wait for Lucy.

When she arrived, Lucy knocked on the door. Knock, knock, knock. The man said in a squeaky voice, “Come on in my dear!” When Lucy saw Aunty Katy she said, “What a big red nose you have!” The man replied, “I have been blowing it so much!” Then Lucy said, “What big hands you have!” He replied, “All the better for holding your basket with, so hand it over!” So she did and said, “What big feet you have!” “All the better to run away with your yummy cakes!” the man screamed as he grabbed the basket, pushed Lucy onto the sofa and shouted, “HA HA HA, I’m going to enjoy these cakes!” and ran out the front door!

Unluckily for him, Lucy’s Uncle Fred was coming home from work. He was luckily still wearing his police uniform. Lucy shouted, “Catch that thief! He has stolen all the cakes and locked Aunty Katy in the kitchen!” Uncle Fred stretched out his long arm and grabbed the thief and said, “GOT HIM!” He put him in handcuffs and took him to the police station. Lucy let Aunty Katy out of the kitchen, and then they sat down with a cup of tea and enjoyed the delicious cakes!
